Veterinary Client Patient Relationship

If you have been directed to this page, then first of all: Thank you for working with us!

However, we need to take a moment to discuss our veterinary client-patient relationship (VCPR).

A VCPR is a professional relationship between a veterinarian, a client, and a patient (animal), in which the veterinarian assumes responsibility for making clinical judgments about the health of the animal(s) and the client agrees to follow the veterinarian’s instructions. This relationship is essential for providing effective veterinary care, including diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management.

A VCPR is established when the veterinarian has examined the animal(s) and is familiar with their care, management, and environment. This typically requires the veterinarian to inspect the animal(s) and facilities in person at least once a year.

In the state of Minnesota, a VCPR has additional specific legal requirements established by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Please see this handout for specifics.

In addition to the technical requirements of a VCPR, we also recognize the importance of maintaining an ongoing relationship between you as our client and us as your veterinary provider.

In an increasingly uncertain world, one of the few constants we can rely on is the time available to serve you and your patients’ needs. To ensure that all our clients and their animals receive the highest standard of care and attention, we kindly request that consultations are kept within reasonable timeframes.

If you require extensive consultation and it is not accompanied by billable services, additional charges may be applied to your account for the extended use of our time. This policy enables us to continue providing dedicated attention to each client and their animals, without compromising the quality of our care.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.
